    Founded in 1905, the College of Education consistently ranks among the top 30 public education schools in the elite Association of American Universities. The College of Education prepares students to become professional teachers in unified elementary/special education, unified early childhood education and the various areas of secondary education.

    Programs: Unified Elementary/Special Education, Unified Early Childhood Education

    Degrees: Bachelor of Arts in Education (B.A.E.), Master of Education (M.Ed.)

    Academic Advising: Advising for undergraduate admission, critical-tracking, bachelor’s degree requirements and the university’s general education information is available in the Office of Student Services, G416 Norman Hall.

    Students who are interested in graduate studies to prepare to teach at the secondary level should contact the School of Teaching and Learning in 2423 Norman Hall or call 352.273.4215.

    College Scholarships: The College of Education awards scholarships to graduate and undergraduate students through an annual selection process. Eligibility for individual awards is determined by the college based on a student's fall-term classification.

    The Florida Department of Education also provides scholarships and loans for juniors and seniors in education.

    The federal Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant (TEACH Grant) is available to students enrolled in programs leading to professional certification in critical shortage subjects.

    Information about the Florida Fund for Minority Teachers Scholarship is available in the Office of Recruitment, Retention and Multicultural Affairs, G415 Norman Hall.

    • Higher Education Act (1998): The U.S. Department of Education's Higher Education Act addresses accountability requirements for teacher preparation programs. The act mandates that teacher preparation programs publish annually pertinent program information including but not limited to the following:

      • Program accreditation
      • Pass rates of graduates on state teacher certification assessments
      • Programs that have been designated as low performing by the state

      Accordingly, information about the state- and NCATE-accredited teacher preparation programs at UF is available online, and in print upon request.
