College of Education

Founded in 1905, the College of Education consistently ranks among the top 30 public education schools in the elite Association of American Universities. The College of Education prepares students to become professional teachers in unified elementary/special education, unified early childhood education and the various areas of secondary education.

College Scholarships: The College of Education awards scholarships to graduate and undergraduate students through an annual selection process. Eligibility for individual awards is determined by the college based on a student's fall-term classification.

The Florida Department of Education also provides scholarships and loans for juniors and seniors in education.

The federal Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant (TEACH Grant) is available to students enrolled in programs leading to professional certification in critical shortage subjects.

Higher Education Act (1998): The U.S. Department of Education's Higher Education Act addresses accountability requirements for teacher preparation programs. The act mandates that teacher preparation programs publish annually pertinent program information including but not limited to the following:

• Program accreditation
• Pass rates of graduates on state teacher certification assessments
• Programs that have been designated as low performing by the state
