FIN 4433 Venture Finance and Private Equity

Students will learn venture capital and private equity investing by exercising the skills used by professional firms. Learning activities include developing and evaluating business plans, valuation and calculating potential investment returns, deal structuring and developing debt structuring models.

This course provides a mechanism by which course work taken at a foreign university as part of an approved study-abroad program can be recorded on the transcript and counted toward UF graduation.
Credits: 1; Prereq: 90 hours earned and a 3.6 UF GPA.
A thesis is required for award of magna cum laude or summa cum laude designation. To qualify for the thesis option, students normally will have completed 90 semester hours of course work (exceptions may be made by the honors coordinator of the student's major department) and must have at least the 3.6 GPA required for high honors at the time they enroll. The thesis will be reviewed by at least one faculty member chosen by the honors coordinator from the student's major department. (S-U)

Course focuses on the market valuation of income-producing real estate stressing the market, cost and income approaches to value. Includes the evolving relevance of real estate valuation information to corporate financial reporting and the needs and functions of corporate and investment fiduciaries. Normative and actual models of valuation are presented and contrasted. Sources of appraisal error and bias are also examined.
